" Obituary.
The funeral of one of Salem's oldest citizens was held at theMethodist Church at 3PM last Sunday, July 21st.
Mr. Byers was a native of Pa. He was born in that state on the24thday of April, 1812. Before he arrived at manhood his parents emigratedto Ohio. Dec. 3, 1838 he was married to Mary E. Daily. Had he liveduntil next December, the years of their marriage would have been threescore. After his marriage he moved to Indaina and in 1852 they cametoIowa. The children of the family were thirteen in number, fivedaughters, and eight sons. Nine of these are living. Mr. Byers waswellknown in portions of Henry County and was a man of strict honesty andhabits of industry. The last few years of his life were spent in Salem.His funeral was largely attended by his old neighbors and friends."
