He died on Oct 11, 1941 in Jackson Twp., Henry Co., IA.

ALFRED L. BYERS

Funeral services for Alfred Byers were held at the Methodist church onMonday, Oct. 13 at 2 p. m. and were attended by a large number ofrelatives and friends. Alfred was a good neighbor and friend among alland the profusion of flowers and attendance of friends was an expressionof the high esteem in which he was held. Rev. G. G. Hallauer, officiatedat the services using for his text "Life's Unexpected Crosses."

The songs "Ivory Palaces" and "Abide With Me" were sung by Mrs. AlbertaHallauer, Mrs. Ethel Garretson, Marvin Hunting and Herbert Garretsonaccompanied by Mrs. Leah Beery. Interment was in the Salem Friendscemetery and bearers were Ben Barney, Milo Kudobe, L. A. Bunker, GeorgeWilmeth, Guy Hunting, Richard Bell.

Alfred Lee Byers, son of Perry and Ruth Scarber Byers, was born Aug. 6,1883 and passed away at his home Oct. 11, 1941 at the age of 58 years, 2months and 5 days.

He lived in Henry county all his days with the exception of two yearswhich were spent in Lawrence, Kansas. He was a farmer from the timehereached manhood.

Alfred was one of 12 children. Four sisters preceded him in death:Florence in 1896; Rose in 1930; Leota in 1937 and Margaret in 1940. Hissurviving sisters are Nettie of Mt. Pleasant, Zylphia of Mt. Pleasant andHattie of Longview, Wash. The brothers are Orrie of Salem, Floyd ofWestBranch, Linn of Beloit, Wis., and Harvey of Wenatchee, Wash.

On June 23, 1909, he was united in marriage to Maude Nicholson. Tothis union was born one son, Verle Lee. Alfred was a faithful member ofthe Salem Congregational church and he took an active part in the work ofhis church as long as health allowed.

Leaving to mourn his loss are not only his beloved wife and son, butmany close relatives and friends. Alfred was a kind and loving husbandand father and was very well liked by all who knew him.
