The 11th of 12 children of Perry Byers and Ruth Scarborough, , Perry was the great-great-uncle of Jay Hannah, was born in Henry Co., IA on Aug 4, 1889 and married Lena Taylor (with whom he had 6 children: Vernon F, Cleo Clifford, Thelma Dorothy, Leland Francis, Refa Darlene and Carol Elaine) in Mt. Pleasant, IA on Oct 26, 1912.
He died on Jan 20, 1946 in Mercy Hosp., Ia. City, IA.

A FAREWELL PARTY
A farewell party was held Tuesday evening in the basement of the M. E.church in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Byers who will soon leave for theirnew home near West Branch.
This family has been very faithful workers in the church and communityand the Salem M. E. church especially regret to lose them although whatis our loss will be a very profitable gain in the West Branch community.
The first part of the evening was spent in playing games among whichwas a very interesting and instructive game played in which well knownmanufacturing places of Iowa were located.
All seemed to enjoy the evening to its utmost. The older ones visitingwhile the Supt. And Mrs. Warner Russell had charge of the young peopleand the children enjoyed themselves in games to their liking.
Following this delicious refreshments of sandwiches, pickles, wafers,fruit salad and coffee, was served. Then followed the program of theevening under the direction of Rev. Geo. Pennington which consisted ofpep singing led by a group of young people and short talks by Mr. Smith,Mrs. Hattie Wilmeth, Newell DeLong, Supt. Russell, Mrs. Mary Smith andMrs. Minnie Masden, also the presenting of gifts from the differentdepartments of the church, and then a very fitting response was given byMr. Floyd Byers in behalf of himself and family.
About one hundred and twenty five friends attended this social eventand all join in wishing the Byers family success and happiness in theirnew home.

PERRY FLOYD BYERS
Perry Floyd Byers, son of Perry, and Ruth Byers was born August 4,1889 in Henry county, Iowa near the town of Salem. He passed away atMercy hospital in Iowa City, January 20, 1946 at the age of 56 years,five months and 16 days.
On Oct. 26, 1912 he was united in marriage to Winnifred Taylor andfarmed in the vicinity of Salem until 1931 when they moved to a farmnearWest Branch, Iowa. It was in this community that he resided at the timeof his death. To this union were born six children: Vernon of WestLiberty; Cleo, Leland and Carol, at home; Thelma, now Mrs. Dale Smith ofTipton and Darlene, now Mrs. Gerald Nevins of West Liberty. Survivingare the wife, these children and one grandson, Barry Smith.
He also leaves to mourn his passing three sisters and two brothersas follows: Mrs. Nettie Bunker and Mrs. Zylphia Hannah of Mr. Pleasant,Ia. Mrs. Hattie Striebe of Longview, Washington: Leonard Byers ofBeloit, Wisconsin and Harvey Byers of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He waspreceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers.
Mr. Byers united with the Methodist church in Salem and was a faithfulmember while living there. Later he transferred his membership to thewest Branch chruch. Here he made many more lasting friends and wasalways interested in the welfare of the community. For many years he wasa member and president of the school board at Downey giving freely of histime and efforts. He was a quiet, congenial, and good-naturedindividual, ever kind and thoughtful, always thinking and planning forhis family and many friends.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in West Branch onJanuary 22 at 12:30 P. M. and interment was in Friends Cemetery atSalem. Rev. James P. Gable, former pastor of the West Branch Methodistchurch officiated at the final rites.
