The 5th of 12 children of Perry Byers and Ruth Scarborough, , Orlando was the great-great-uncle of Jay Hannah, was born in Jackson Twp., Henry Co., IA on Mar 10, 1878 and married Laura Grubb (with whom he had 1 child, E. Harold) in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, USA on May 19, 1901.

He died on Jun 1, 1943 in Mem Hosp., Mt. Pleasant, IA and was buried in Salem South Cemetery after Jun 1, 1943.

ORRIE BYERS

Orrie Byers, the fifth child of Perry and Ruth Scarborough Byers, wasborn in Jackson township, Henry County, Iowa on March 10, 1878. Hereceived his education in the public schools of Jackson township.

On May 19, 1901 he and Laura Grubb were united in marriage, and oneson, Harold, was born of this union. A few years previous to hismarriage Mr. Byers joined the Donaldson Chapel where he served for sometime as Sunday School superintendent.

Orrie Byers spent his life in Henry County during the most part ofwhich he farmed. However, through out the past two years he served asjanitor for the Salem high school.

In 1941 he and his wife purchased their home in Salem where he residedat the time of his last illness. Mr. Byers departed this life, at theage of 65 years at the Henry County Memorial Hospital on June 1, 1943.

Surviving are his wife and son, Harold, and three brothers: Leonard,Floyd and Harvey as well as three sisters: Nettie, Zylphia and Hattie.

Leaving the path we twain have trod;

Pass and the soul that still is one and thine

Thru grief shall learn the way to God."

Funeral services for the late Orrie Byers were held at the StevensFuneral Home and from the Salem Methodist church on Thursday afternoon,June 3, 1943. Rev. Morell C. Rubey officiated. Burial was in theFriends cemetery, Salem, Iowa. The bearers: William Pidgeon, ErrollConard, Victor Morrow, A. J. Lee, J. T Oard and Albert Hoyer.
