" Obituary.
The funeral of one of Salem's oldest citizens was held at the Methodist Church at 3PM last Sunday, July 21st.
Mr. Byers was a native of Pa. He was born in that state on the24th day of April, 1812. Before he arrived at manhood his parents emigrated to Ohio. Dec. 3, 1838 he was married to Mary E. Daily. Had he lived until next December, the years of their marriage would have been three score. After his marriage he moved to Indaina and in 1852 they cameto Iowa. The children of the family were thirteen in number, five daughters, and eight sons. Nine of these are living. Mr. Byers waswell known in portions of Henry County and was a man of strict honesty and habits of industry. The last few years of his life were spent in Salem. His funeral was largely attended by his old neighbors and friends."
