Mrs. Jay Long
Mrs. Jay Long, 85, of Salem, died Wednesday, April 20, 1977 at Weiser Community Hospital at Weiser, Idaho, following a short illness.
Luella long, daughter of Marion and Sophia Schisler Miller, was born Dec. 1,1891, at Vermont, Ill.
Mrs. Long moved to Salem, Iowa when a small child, attended school there, and spent most of her life in Salem. She was a member of the Salem Methodist Church. On July 19, 1910, she was married to Jay Long at Mt. Pleasant. He died on May 16, 1963.
Mrs. Long is survived by four daughters: Mrs. Erma Serles, Hinsdale, Ill., Mrs. Don (Dorothy) Watson, Cambridge, Idaho; Mrs. Hjalmar (Jean) Monson, Mt. Pleasant, Mrs. Conrad (Liberta) Taylor, Roseville, Ill.;two sons; Harold Edwin Long, New Orleans, La., and Robert Jay Long, Lake Mills; eight grandsons; one granddaughter; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two daughters, Vivian McDowell and Doris Ellen, who died in infancy, one half brother Ralph Parr, one half sister, Amanda Parr, one granddaughter, Verna Jean Serles, and one great-granddaughter, Jennifer Hannah.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 24, 2:30 p.m., at the Beatty-Jennings Funeral Home in Salem. The Rev. Lewis Savage will officiate with interment in Salem East Cemetery.
Family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 23 atthe funeral home.
