OBITUARY

Alfred James Denney was the oldest son of Eli and Hannah (Bond) Denneyand was born near West Point, Iowa, December 9, 1870 and died at hishomefour miles east of Lowell, Ia., at the age of 55 years, 3 mo., 15 days.

He spent his young manhood at home with his parents until his marriageto Miss Anna Pearl Collins of near Salem, Ia. on June 18, 1895. Ninechildren blessed this union, five sons and four daughters, eight ofwhomsurvive, the oldest son Edwin Lee having died in France October 26,1918. Those remaining to mourn the loss of a loving husband and fatherare his devoted wife and the following children: Mrs. Lela Head of NewLondon, Ia.,; Elbert C. of Sperry, Ia. Florence, Harry, Hugh, Frances,Rachel, and Frank at home, one small grandson Merle Arthur Head, twograndchildren dying in infancy.

The past twelve years were spent on his farm east of Lowell where hewas held in the highest esteem by all who knew him, and thegrief-stricken wife and surviving children keenly feel the loss of anindulgent and loving husband and father.

He was a member of the Long Creek M.E. church and lived a happychristian life.

He also leaves to mourn his loss, one brother Lugher Denney of Mt.Hamill, Ia. and one sister Mrs. Orra Lee of Prairie Grove, Arkansas,anda host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by hisparents and one sister, Mrs. Cora Briggs.

Services were held from the Long Creek church Saturday afternoon attwo o'clock. They were conducted by Rev. Coughlin, pastor of the church,assisted by Rev. Williams of the Baptist church of Danville. Thepallbearers were John Head, Tom Martin, Wilbur Connor, Frank Wilson,Warren Watson, and Frank Walz.
