Viola S. Courter, the daughter of Peter Courter and Margaret Bell Lee,was born on January 19, 1870 in Winfield, Henry County, Iowa died atage80 on August 17, 1950, and was buried in Elmwood Cemetery, near MorningSun, Louisa County, Iowa.

Viola married John W. Hannah on July 2, 1891 in Salem, Iowa. John wasborn on July 30, 1870 in Jackson Township, Henry County, Iowa, died onJanuary 30, 1950 in Morning Sun, Louisa County, Iowa, at age 79, andwasburied in Elmwood Cemetery, near Morning Sun, Louisa County, Iowa. Theyhad five children: Jennie Reil "Reil," Bertha L., Mary Catherine, CoraBelle "Belle," and Esther Ruth Hannah.

MRS. VIOLA HANNAH FUNERAL SATURDAY

Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterianchurch here for Mrs. Viola S. Hannah who died suddenly at her home onWednesday evening, August 16. Last rites were in charge of Reverend O. L.Byrns and interment was in Elmwood cemetery.

Mrs. Hannah had suffered a light heart attack about two weeks beforeherdeath but had recovered and was about to be about the house. Her deathfollows that of her husband, John W. Hannah, who died here on January 30.

From 1913 until 1940 Mr. and Mrs. Hannah operated a grocery and varietystore in Morning Sun and in this business they became known to manypeople in this community.

Viola S. Hannah was the daughter of Peter and Belle Lee Courter. Shewasborn in the Winfield community on January 17, 1870. On July 2, 1891 shemarried John W. Hannah and for a number of years they lived on farmsinthe Mt. Pleasant area. In 1913 they moved to Morning Sun and lived herethe remaining years of their lives.

Mrs. Hannah was a member of the Presbyterian church in Winfield. Sheissurvived by five daughters; Mrs. S. N. Walker, Morning Sun; Mrs. BerthaMcDowell, New London, Mrs. M. J. Hickenbottom, Alameda, California; Mrs.Ollie Oakley, Morning Sun; Mrs. Robert Richardson, Crawfordsville. Alsosurviving are two brothers, Oscar and Harlan Courter, Winfield, and twosisters, Mrs. Imo Ogg, Mt. Pleasant, and Miss Ruth Courter, Frenchburg,Kentucky. Fifteen grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren also areliving. The husband, parents, five brothers, and two sisters are dead.
