The 3rd of 11 children of William Hiatt and Charity Williams, , Isom was the 4 times great-grandfather of Jay Hannah, was born in Guilford Co. , NC on Jan 28, 1776 and married Mary Erwin (with whom he had 10 children: Jesse, William, Samuel, Charity, David Isom, Ruth L, Elizabeth Betsy, Eunice, Anna and William Lindsey) in Guilford Co. on Oct 17, 1799.

He died on Oct 18, 1842 in Henry Co., IA.
