, the husband of Elizabeth Hutchinson Bunker (the three times great-aunt of Jay Hannah), was born in New Albany, Floyd Co., IN on Dec 24, 1839 and married Elizabeth (with whom he had 8 children: infant, infant, infant, George R, Mary Emeline, William S, Joseph Edgar and Rosella Anna) in Lowell, IA on Nov 26, 1863.

He died on Feb 19, 1916 in Kennekuk, Atchison Co., KS.

W.E. Simkin attended the funeral at Oskaloosa, last week of hisbrother- in - law , William E. Hinshaw.

W.K. Bunker received a telegram Saturday announcing the death of hisbrother- in - law, Joseph Shannon of Horton, Kansas. Mr. Shannon was aformer resident of Jackson township. He was about 77 years of age andleaves a family of three children.

JOSEPH A. SHANNON

Joseph Archibald Shannon, who died at his home in Kennekuk at 8 o'clockon Saturday, Feb. 19, at the age of 76 years 1 month and 26 days, wasborn in New Albany, Ind. , Dec. 24, 1839. When still a young man he movedwith his parents to Henry county, Iowa, where on Nov. 26, 1863, he wasmarried to Elizabeth Bunker, of Lowell, Ia. To his union eight childrenwere born, three dying in infancy. His wife died Dec. 26, 1910. Twodaughters also died in 1912 - Mrs. Mary Emaline Root on Jan 31, and Mrs.Ella Anna Meek on June 21. He is survived by three sons- George andEdgar, of Kennekuk, and William Shannon of Horton, and by fourgrandchildren, one great-grandchild.

Mr. Shannon came to Kansas overland in the fall of 1870 and eversince then has made his home in Grasshopper township, Atchison county. Hewas a resident of Kennekuk for overly 30 years. The past two years hehadbeen making his home with his son George and wife. Mr. Shannon was a manwell thought of by all who knew him; he was kind to both man and beast.it seems as though he had more than his share of grief in the past fiveyears, losing his wife, two daughters and several brothers and sisters.He will surely be missed in this community and his loss can never bereplaced. The sympathy of the entire community go forth to the survivingmembers in their great time of grief.

The funeral was held on Monday at Kennekuk. - The Horton (Kansas)Headlight Commercial.
