Luella Jean Brombaugh was born September 30, 1924, in Salem, Iowa, the daughter of Grover Jay and Luella (Miller) Long. She died on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at Lakewood Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 99.

On her nineteenth birthday Jean married Benjamin Millard Hannah at the Salem Methodist Church. Three sons were born to this union, John Robert Hannah, Stephen Gail Hannah, and James Bradley Hannah. Ben died in a trucking accident on February 19, 1951.

Jean married Hjalmar Frank Monson, on August 4, 1955, at the Methodist Church in Dexter, Iowa, to this union was born one son, Lynn Edward Monson. The couple were married 26 years before Hjalmar's death, December 2, 1981.

In 1988, Jean married Robert Frederick Brombaugh at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. They were married 29 years until Robert's death, Nov. 24, 2017.

Jean was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, joining as a young girl in Salem, Iowa, and transferring her membership to the Mt. Pleasant church in 1951. She was active in numerous church women's groups.

A graduate of Salem High School in 1942, Jean subsequently received a stenographic diploma in the first graduating class of the Pioneer College of Business, Iowa Wesleyan College. She was employed at Marshall Field's Department Store in Chicago, and in Mt. Pleasant at Spurgeon's department store, the public library, and the dental office of Dr. Robert Lofgren. Her major life avocation was as a wife and mother, raising four sons in marriages totaling 62 years.

Jean traced her maternal lineage through the Macy family to become a long-time member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and was a 53-year member and past president of the Trenton, Iowa, American Legion Auxiliary. Music was her favorite pastime, having since childhood played the piano. She also enjoyed genealogy research, and writing about her life experiences.

Survivors include her sister, Liberta (Mrs. Conrad Taylor) of Roseville, Illinois; four sons and their wives, John and Pam Hannah of Columbus, Nebraska, Steve and Janet Hannah of Cottonwood, California, Jim and Sharon Hannah of Independence, Missouri, and Lynn and Marcia Monson of Dexter, Michigan, two stepsons, Richard Brombaugh of Stockport, Iowa, and Marvin Brombaugh of Champaign, Illinois, two stepdaughters, Linda Jaffee of Tucson, Arizona, and Susan Davis of Keosauqua, Iowa, and more than 20 grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Ben Hannah, Hjalmar Monson, and Robert Brombaugh, a granddaughter, Jennifer Lee Hannah, brothers, Harold and Robert, sisters Erma, Dorothy, Vivian and a sister who died in infancy, Doris Ellen.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, August 23, 2024 at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant. Following the service interment will be in the Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Memorials may be directed in her memory to the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant or to the Salem East Cemetery in Salem.
