Huh. I was just informed that gcc doesn't exist in the most recent OSX release ("Mountain Lion"). It's been replaced with LLVM. 

Fascinating. This is one of those times I wished I understood C++ underpinnings better than I do.

I assume the CPAN tool chain still works as it always has?

I'm still back on Snow Leopard (OSX 10.6.8)    :)

gcc is dead*! long live gcc!
