Thanks Tim, looks like a start.

Question: 

 * Is the 20 value in $spacing a mm or cm?  Is there a way to change the PDF x/y coordinates into another unit (mm, picas, inches, nanometers, etc)

(I didn't print the resulting PDF yet, so I could measure...)
