That is a good thing . . .  Sys::Syslog is a wonderful.

I got the same thing . . .

Upgrading Metalog to the latest my Gentoo box has (0.8_pre20031130)
showed the same thing.

>From the thread I linked to above, they seem to say that Unix::Syslog
works better with metalog.  I haven't tried it at all.

Methinks that metalog is broken somehow.
