So I got into Perl in Spring 2004 at UNO, but unfortunately have rarely used it much since then... though I really should! I have a couple backup scripts I know I should convert from bash to perl, so perhaps I'll start working on that.
Academic Background
I'm currently a computer science major at UNO in the College of IS&T with an MIS minor and concentration in Internet Technologies (ooohh.. aaahh!) and will graduate in May 2005. I spent the Fall 2004 semester abroad in Norway, and actually had a friend email me for a potential consulting gig to make a website to parse text files – a perfect test for my Perl skills – yet unfortunately his group found someone else or decided to do it themselves. =( (that would have been rad to work my first programming job while I'm traveling abroad! ...maybe that dream will come true someday: "travel the world, telecommute and be a virtual consultant any where")
After graduation I hope to land a summer job then head off to school again for a masters degree in Computer Science with Information Assurance as a concentration. I'm looking at the Centers of Academic Excellence from NSA and hoping to land a Cybercorp Scholarship for Service to NPS. From there, who knows where... hopefully my Perl skills will come in handy!
Other Activities
I've also been quite active at UNO in the ACM club serving as President, organizing speakers, and running Info-sec night video presentations and discussions weekly for a couple years. I'm currently working on building an Americans for Informed Democracy chapter at UNO after coming back from studying abroad – and wanting my experience to have an impact, provide some meaning, and hopefully get more people to think globally and multilateral especially when it comes to foreign policy. "be a good neighbor" like Mr. Rogers to the whole neighborhood (world).
I am also a member of OLUG, CSF, CFA, GSO, and several organizations on campus like Golden Key and Omicron Delta Kappa honor societies.
