The younger of 2 children of Hiram Sylvester (Vester) Stark and Josephine Klingaman, , Joseph was the first cousin twice-removed on the mother's side of Jay Hannah, was born in Jefferson Co Iowa on Oct 9, 1925 and. He was married twice - to Audrey Helmick (on May 6, 1945) Carolyn Adams (on Nov 19, 1981). He has 3 surviving children with Audrey Helmick: Terry Joseph, Rebecca June and Martha Jean.
He died on Feb 15, 2005 in Iowa City, Iowa.
Joseph S. Stark, 79, of rural Washington, Iowa, died Tuesday, Feb. 15,2005, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at ImmanuelLutheran Church in Washington, with the Rev. Brian Gentz officiating.Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for theImmanuel Lutheran Church, 1226 E. Washington St., Washington 52353.

Mr. Stark was born Oct. 9, 1925, in Fairfield, the son of HiramSylvester and E. Josephine Klingaman Stark. He married Audrey Helmick.They later divorced. He then married Alita Larsen.
He attended school in Fairfield and engaged in farming near Bataviauntil his retirement.
His interests included golfing, dancing and gardening.
He was a member of the local ham radio club and bi-monthly Biblestudy at Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he was a member.
Survivors include his wife of Washington, three children, Terry J.Stark and wife Mary of Johnston, Rebecca J. Lodge and husband George ofCincinnati, Ohio and Martha Stark of Brighton; four grandchildren; onegreat-grandchild; and one sister, Margaret Gardner of Ottumwa.
Mr. Stark was preceded in death by his parents.
