Harold Humphrey
Harold Wayne Humphrey, 77, of Burlington, died at 7:30 a.m. Saturday,Jan. 15, 2000, in Burlington.
Born July 20, 1922, in Salem, he was the son of Bert and Maggie L.Hudson Humphrey. On July 19, 1942, he married Margaret Bain in Kahoka, Mo.
Mr. Humphrey was a World War II Navy veteran, serving on the USS Cappsas a petty officer. He fought in the battles of Midway, Okinawa and IwoJima. He worked for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant as a foreman for 20years and as a supervisor for five years.
He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Rick Humphrey of Garland, Texas; twogranddaughters; three brothers, Howard Humphrey of Burlington, ArloHumphrey of Farmington and Earl Humphrey of rural Mount Pleasant; niecesand nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in Prugh's Chapel.
The funeral for Mr. Humphrey will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in RiversideBaptist Church, with the Rev. Charles W. Stevens officiating. Burialwithmilitary rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2561 andAmerican Legion Post 58 will be in Lambirth Cemetery in Rome.
A memorial has been established.
