Dennis Peterson

Dennis Peterson, 51, of Collinsville, Ill., formerly of Mount Pleasant,died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at his home.

Born Sept. 10, 1952, in Davenport, he was the son of L. R. "Pete" andLeila Virginia Calvert Peterson. On Feb. 14, 1975, he married Carol Cox.They were later divorced.

Mr. Peterson worked for Sheets Motors and Orr Enterprises. He also workedfor the Henry County Highway Department.

He was a 1971 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School and attended IowaState University and Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa. Hegraduated with a degree in auto mechanics. He enjoyed using his handswhile he worked. He lived in Columbia, Mo., for most of his adult life,and since May of 2002, resided in Collinsville. He was of the Christianfaith. He enjoyed leather tooling and loved westerns, especially movieswith Clint Eastwood.

Survivors include two sons, Jason Peterson, serving in the Air ForceinCalifornia, and Michael Peterson of Mount Pleasant; two daughters, LeilaVirginia Peterson, serving in the Army in Texas, and Kathleen Peterson ofFlorida; his father and stepmother, Pete and Ruth Peterson of MountPleasant; one sister, Virginia Ekstrand of New London; and two brothers,Marvin Peterson of Wood River, Ill., and David Peterson of Belleville,Ill.

Mr. Peterson was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday at OlsonPowellMemorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friendsfrom noon to 1 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Peterson will be at 1 p.m. Friday at OlsonPowellMemorial Chapel, with Pastor Monte Knudsen officiating. Burial will be inLone Tree Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Brain Injuries of America Associationand Parkinson's Association.
