The 5th of 8 children of William Monroe 'Billie' Shannon and Mary Bunker, , Clara was the first cousin three-times-removed on the father's side of Jay Hannah, was born in Lowell, Henry Co., IA on Dec 22, 1861 and married James William 'Bill' Boyles (with whom she had 5 children: infant daughter, infant daughter, infant daughter, William and Gladys) in Mt. Pleasant, Henry Co., Iowa on Jun 1, 1886.

She died on Jul 31, 1961 in Ottumwa , Wapello Co., IA.
