The child of John Scarborough and Eunice Hiatt, , Gulielma was the three times great-aunt of Jay Hannah, was born in Nr. Salem, Iowa on Jul 9, 1854 and married Joseph Griffin (with whom she had 2 children: Mary Alice and Seth T) in Salem, Henry Co., IA on Mar 29, 1872.

She died on Oct 24, 1922 in Garnett, KS.

OBITUARY

Elma Scarborough, daughter of John L. and Eunice (Hiatt)Scarborough, was born near Salem, Iowa, July 9, 1854. She grew towomanhood in that vicinity and was married March 29, 1872 to Joseph W.Griffin of Pilot grove.

After residing on a farm there for a few years, they removed toDouglas county, Kas., where they lived for about seven years. Then theyreturned to Lee county, Iowa, and in 1888 sold out their farminginterests there and settled on a farm in Hardin county, Iowa, where theylived for ten years. In 1898 they returned to Douglas county, whereMr.griffin died in 1914. She is survived by two children, Mrs. Mary wing ofVancouver, Wash. and Seth T. Griffin of Lawrence; also fourgrandchildren; two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Ruth Byers, Mrs. CharityMcVey and George Scarborough, all of Henry county, Ia.

Mrs. Griffin had been in poor health for a great many years butherlife has been one of service for others with apparently never a thoughtof self and never a word of complaint. A noble and successful woman,from the standpoint of a christian, has gone to her reward. She wasalivelong member of the Friends church and bore all her sufferings withtrue christian fortitude. She had just returned this fall from a visitto her old home in Iowa.

The end came to Mrs. Griffin on Tuesday, October 24, after she hadbeen confined to bed only about eight days.

The funeral was held at the home of her son, S. T. Griffin. A largenumber of friends attended to pay the last respect to her noble life. Theschools were closed for the afternoon. Rev. B. A. Gessner had charge ofthe services. A quartet sang Beautiful Isle of Somewhere, Abide WithMe, No Night There, and at the grave Asleep in Jesus. Burial was atOak Hill cemetery.

Those from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mrs. McVey, herdaughter, Eunice, and son , Melvin, of Salem, Iowa, and Cyrus White,fromSalina, Kas., and Mrs. Melvin Miller and family, from Garnett, Kas. -Lawrence (Kas.) Daily.
