The 10th of 12 children of William Stark and Rebecca Ragsdale, , Sarah was the four times great-aunt of Jay Hannah, was born in Parke Co., Indiana on Apr 24, 1844 and married David Alexander (with whom she had 13 children: John William, Rebecca Jane, Sarah Eva, Eliza Emma, Martha F, Mary A, Lauria E, Thomas E, Henry Clay, Frank Leslie, George Calvin, James Louis and Etta May) in Vermilion Co., Illinois on Oct 23, 1859.

She died on Dec 15, 1917 in Coles Co., Illinois1.

Mrs Alexander Dies at Trilla Home

Trilla, Ill., December 18--Mrs Sarah Elizabeth Alexander, widow ofDavid Alexander, one of the oldest residents of this vicinity, passedaway at 1:30 o'clock on Sunday morning at the home of her son, LewisAlexander, one and a half miles southeast of this village. Mrs Alexanderhad been in poor health for about a year, but she had been bedfast foronly about two weeks. Her ailment was a complication of troubles due toapoplexy and paralysis.

Funeral services were conducted Monday Morning at 11 o'clock fromthe residence, being in charge of Rev. A H Kelso of Mattoon. Burial wasmade in the Beals cemetery, east of Trilla.

Mrs Alexander was born in Posey county, Indiana on April 24, 1844.There she lived until about thirty-four years ago when she came to thisvicinity and settled with her husband on a farm north of Janesville.After a few years residence there the family removed to a farm north ofTrilla, which continued to be the home of Mrs Alexander until the deathof her husband, David Alexander, about four or five years ago, sincewhich time she had made her home with her son.

Mrs Alexander became the wife of Mr Alexander in October, 1859.While they were residents of Indiana. Mrs Alexander was the mother ofthirteen children. Only eight of these survive, but all lived to manhoodand womanhood before death invaded the family circle. The survivingchildren are J W Alexander, Snow Qulamie, Wash. Mrs Rebecca Pulliam,Deer Park, Wash. Mrs Eva Burke, Marshall, Ind. Mrs Mary McClain,Judson, Ind. Frank Alexander, Rockfort, Wash. Cal Alexander, north ofJanesville; Mrs Etta Bidle, Danville; and J L Alexander, southeast ofTrilla.
