The 3rd of 12 children of William Stark and Rebecca Ragsdale, , William was the four times great-uncle of Jay Hannah, was born in Parke Co., Indiana on Nov 15, 1830 and was married twice - to Elizabeth Rush (on Aug 19, 1850 in Parke Co.) Eliza Carter (on Jan 1, 1870 in Vermilion Co., Illinois, following the death of Elizabeth on Sep 25, 1856)1. He had 8 children: Cyntha Jane and Mary Isabella Emaline with Elizabeth; and Georgie, Callie, Carrie, Cora, Fred and LaVern with Eliza Ann.
He died in Parke Co. on Dec 24, 19151.

Obituary
William A Stark was born in Parke County Indiana, November 15, 1830,departed this life at Judson, Ind., December 24, 1915 aged 85 years, onemonth and nine days. At an early age he was united in marriage to MissElizabeth Rush of Parke County, to this union was born two children,Cintha Jane and Mary Emaline, who died in infancy. Mary the wifefollowing one year later.
He enlisted from Parke County July 24, 1862, and was mustered intoservice at Indianapolis as private of Company H, 21st Reg., participatingin several battles during the war. On September 22, 1863 he received hishonorable discharge at Indianapolis on account of disability. On January1, 1870, he was united in marriage to Miss Eliza Ann Carter of Champaign,Ill., to this union six children were born, four girls and two boys, allof whom survive except one boy, Georgie who died in infancy, those thatare left to mourn the loss of a dear father are: Mrs Callie Gosnell, ofLebonan, Ind. Mrs Carrie Moore, of Rosedale, Ind. Mrs Cora Armstrong,of Judson, Ind. Fred Stark, of Judson, and Mrs LaVern Deeds, of TerreHaute; nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one brother Albert,of Missouri and one sister Sarah Alexander, of Parke County. Besides ahost of relatives and friends. He was a kind and loving father. Whilehe was not a member of any church, he was a firm believer in the Baptistdoctrines. Uncle Alex as he was commonly called, was a good honest manand was loved by all who knew him, his sickness was of a short, painfulduration of seven days, which he bore patiently, never uttering a word ofcomplaint.

The boon his love has given
And tho' his body slumbers here,
His soul is safe in Heaven
Funeral services were held Sunday morning at Mt Moriah church,conducted by Rev Airhart, of Greencastle, with interment in Mt MoriahCemetery.
