Cheryl Carney, a 1977 graduate of Burlington High School, was been nameddirector of the Quad City Botanical Center in Rock Island. Carney isthedaughter of Norman and Elizabeth Bourn of Burlington. She is a 1981graduate of Iowa State University with degrees in botany andhorticulture. The botanical center, 2525 Fourth Ave., opened in 1998andoffers horticulture education, a living museum of plants, and indoor,year-round tropical conservatory, outdoor conifer and perennial gardens,a greenhouse, art exhibits, library, gift shop and rental space forweddings and meetings. The center is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondaythrough Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
