Joseph S. Stark, 79, of rural Washington, Iowa, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington, with the Rev. Brian Gentz officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1226 E. Washington St., Washington 52353.
Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Stark was born Oct. 9, 1925, in Fairfield, the son of Hiram Sylvester and E. Josephine Klingaman Stark. He married Audrey Helmick. They later divorced. He then married Alita Larsen.
He attended school in Fairfield and engaged in farming near Batavia until his retirement.
His interests included golfing, dancing and gardening.
He was a member of the local ham radio club and bi-monthly Bible study at Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he was a member.
Survivors include his wife of Washington, three children, Terry J. Stark and wife Mary of Johnston, Rebecca J. Lodge and husband George of Cincinnati, Ohio and Martha Stark of Brighton; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Margaret Gardner of Ottumwa.
Mr. Stark was preceded in death by his parents.
