OBITUARY
James Tilford Humphrey, only son of Ezra and Mary Francis Humphrey was born near Salem Nov. 19, 1866 and died Nov. 8, 1926. he was 59 years, 11 mon. and 11 days of age.
Mr. Humphrey lived all his life in the community where he was bornand where he died. Here he grew up from childhood to manhood and was well and favorably known by a large circle of friends, who honored and respected him as a good, upright, and honest citizen. He was a kindand indulgent father, a husband true in every sense of the name. December 22nd, .1889, Mr. Humphrey was united in marriage with Gertrude Chapman, who preceded him in death, Sept. 1902. To this union was added five children, four sons, two of whom died in infancy; Earl C. died in the military service of the World War, Jan. 2, 1918; Bert L. at whose home the father passed away; and one daughter, Annie C. of Janesville, Wisconsin. There are also five grandchildren.
Mr. Humphrey was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows for many years, in which fellowship he was always esteemed and honored for his sincerity.
The funeral services were conducted from Round Prairie Baptist church by Rev. A. W. Miller of Ottumwa, Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 10, after which the remains were laid to rest in Lambert cemetery.
The bereaved family wish to here extend heartfelt thanks to neighbors and friends for ministrations during their time of sorrow.
