Dennis Peterson
Dennis Peterson, 51, of Collinsville, Ill., formerly of Mount Pleasant, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at his home.
Born Sept. 10, 1952, in Davenport, he was the son of L. R. "Pete" and Leila Virginia Calvert Peterson. On Feb. 14, 1975, he married Carol Cox. They were later divorced.
Mr. Peterson worked for Sheets Motors and Orr Enterprises. He also worked for the Henry County Highway Department.
He was a 1971 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School and attended Iowa State University and Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa. He graduated with a degree in auto mechanics. He enjoyed using his hands while he worked. He lived in Columbia, Mo., for most of his adult life, and since May of 2002, resided in Collinsville. He was of the Christian faith. He enjoyed leather tooling and loved westerns, especially movies with Clint Eastwood.
Survivors include two sons, Jason Peterson, serving in the Air Forcein California, and Michael Peterson of Mount Pleasant; two daughters, Leila Virginia Peterson, serving in the Army in Texas, and Kathleen Peterson of Florida; his father and stepmother, Pete and Ruth Peterson of Mount Pleasant; one sister, Virginia Ekstrand of New London; and two brothers, Marvin Peterson of Wood River, Ill., and David Peterson of Belleville, Ill.
Mr. Peterson was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday at OlsonPowell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Peterson will be at 1 p.m. Friday at OlsonPowell Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Monte Knudsen officiating. Burial will be in Lone Tree Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for Brain Injuries of America Association and Parkinson's Association.
