Cheryl Carney, a 1977 graduate of Burlington High School, was been named director of the Quad City Botanical Center in Rock Island. Carney isthe daughter of Norman and Elizabeth Bourn of Burlington. She is a 1981 graduate of Iowa State University with degrees in botany and horticulture. The botanical center, 2525 Fourth Ave., opened in 1998and offers horticulture education, a living museum of plants, and indoor, year-round tropical conservatory, outdoor conifer and perennial gardens, a greenhouse, art exhibits, library, gift shop and rental space for weddings and meetings. The center is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
