E. Milt Pickard, 80, of Clemons and St. Anthony, formerly of Mount Pleasant, died Monday, March 15, 1999, at Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
Born Sept. 8, 1918, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of James O. and Gladys B. Jackson Pickard.
Mr. Pickard was raised and educated in Mount Pleasant and was a 1936 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. After high school, he workedat a rock quarry in Henry County. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World WarII, receiving the Purple Heart during his military service. After the war, he worked for Eldon Miller Trucking as a large equipment hauler. He moved to the Clemons and St. Anthony areas in the late 1940s, where he workedfor International Harvestor. In the 1950s, he worked for Fisher Controls, retiring in the 1980s after more than 30 years of service.
He was a member of the American Legion Frank-Lewis-Glick Post No. 46of Marshalltown.
Survivors include four sisters, Roberta Fraisie of Danville, Ethel Ranck of New London, Lena Mae Hallowell of Mount Pleasant and Selma Kennedy of Fairfield; and one brother, Cecil Pickard of Victorsville, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Pursel-Davis Funeral Home & Crematory of Marshalltown.
The funeral for Mr. Pickard will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Iowa Veterans Home Chapel, with the Rev. Larry French officiating. Burial will be at Clemons Cemetery in Clemons with military rites conducted by the American Legion Frank-Lewis-Glick Post No. 46.
A memorial has been established.
